“We can only be truly compassionate to others when we are compassionate with ourselves. If it does not include yourself, the compassion is incomplete.”

— Buddha

Compassion is an Essential Step on Your Spiritual Journey

Compassion is a deeply revered attitude and life practice in the liberation traditions, including Buddhism, Sufism, Taoism and Tantric Yoga. An entire spiritual path can focus on cultivating and practicing compassion, such as the Buddhist meditation method of Tonglen, meaning Giving and Receiving Compassion.

But what is compassion?

How do we cultivate it?

And how do we live with compassion in our daily lives?

Where do we even start?

Tantra Immersion School’s orientation to compassion is that cultivating it inward, toward our self, is the only way to sustainably practice it in the world—and apply it as we strive for personal growth on the spiritual journey of life. Often, when we try to “be compassionate” outwardly, we’re masking our inner experience behind self-critique, judgement and harmful self-talk.

This is why we devote this entire 8-week module to understanding and applying self-compassion and how it is essential for our spiritual growth.

This module is open to all, regardless of your prior Tantric study or practice.

We welcome anyone curious about Tantra, spiritual orientation, liberation practice or self-compassion to join this 8-week online module.

“There is no greater work than the work of self-love because it lies at the heart of our liberation from ignorance. I show up because I love. I am present because of love. I am alive because of love. I thrive because I am loved. Radical presence is born out of love.”

Curriculum

We define compassion as a willingness to not only witness discomfort, suffering, and pain with presence and nonattachment, but to act in response to this suffering from a place of Love and Awareness.

Self-compassion, therefore, applies these attitudes from within towards ourselves:  to witness discomfort, suffering and pain in ourselves with presence and nonattachment, and to act in response to our own suffering from a place of Love and Awareness.

Our weekly practices and teachings will center around sustainably cultivating compassionate thoughts, words, actions and intentions toward ourselves, rooted in Self-Love and a connection to Source.

This digital world can leave us feeling isolated and unsupported on our life-quests. Tantra Immersion School is here to bring back a feeling of community, accountability, reliability and connection. We can’t wait to practice with you!

Individual Mentorship Offerings

For students engaged in study with Tantra Immersion School, we offer two forms of 1:1 support, each held in a distinct container with its own purpose, boundaries, and relational agreements.

In the spirit of traditional Tantra, Office Hours offer direct access to a teacher for guidance, reflection, and support as you learn and integrate the practices and teachings of Tantra Immersion School. Office Hours offer up to two 30-minute 1:1 check-ins each month, supporting your practice, clarifying teachings, and helping you integrate what you’re learning in your module.

With Office Hours, you can stay connected, ask questions, and better integrate teachings.

Spiritual Mentorship takes place in a 3–6 month container that supports your relationship with the school’s teachings and practices. The work centers integration, discernment, and deepening awareness as you move through study or retreat. It is held within the teacher–student relationship, educational in nature, and clearly distinct from therapy or ongoing personal support.

Spiritual Mentorship offers a steady rhythm of reflection and guidance as practice moves from concept into lived experience.

Please Note

Accessibility

The practices in this class are accessible for all bodies and abilities. Our focus is on what’s happening inside us, so the only requirements are that you are willing to look inward to cultivate self-compassion, and get curious how your outer actions align with a self-compassionate attitude.

Tantra Immersion Facilitators are also happy to offer individual modifications as we are able. Please contact us if you would like to discuss physical or other accessibility needs.

Sexuality

This course is nonsexual. There are no intimate or sexual teachings in the Self-Compassion Module. We do talk about individual sexual energy in some of our Tantra Immersion courses as a means to become more empowered and liberated in our own being.

All sexual orientations, expressions and genders are welcome.

Cultural Honoring

Tantra Yoga is a tradition that comes from the Indian subcontinent and is at least 1000 years old, with roots 3000+ years old. While the teachings of Tantra Immersion are as close to traditional as possible, there have been many interpretations of these teachings throughout the years which have often leaned more toward appropriating than honoring Tantra. There has also been a capitalistic and patriarchal tint to the teachings which underlies how they have been translated and handed down.

As a committed anti-racist and queer person, Grace, the founder and lead facilitator of Tantra Immersion, has spent the last 18 years through study and immersive personal experience sifting through what’s been handed down in their lineages and finding the deepest basis of “Truth” they can access. This path is what they offer in their teachings: a path that both honors the traditional teachings and is aware of the oppressive ways they have been inaccessible beyond white-bodied, spiritual circles for the last 100 years.

Tantra Immersion facilitators are always open to questions and critique about their interpretations and are actively working to update these teachings to be more aware of oppressive narratives, underlying patriarchal interpretations, and societal bias. This is a work in progress and will be for a long time to come. Your participation helps to keep shaping the teachings for the 21st century and beyond.

Scholarships for BIPOC/PGM students and future participants

The container for Tantra Immersion is open to all people. And, there is a loud cry from People of the Global Majority (BIPOC/PGM) to have containers that are not white majority. This has been hard to find in Western spiritual classes and communities.

The Tantra Immersion has an ongoing scholarship fund to support members of our community, prioritizing People of the Global Majority. All current registration fees include a 5% offering to this scholarship fund.

In addition, you are welcome to offer donations to this directly fund by contacting us.

“When your fear touches someone’s pain, it’s pity. When your love touches someone’s pain, that’s compassion.”

— Steven Levine
